Emma E. Ross Harty papers, 1860-1862 [manuscript].

Nine letters to Emma E. Ross before her marriage from her friend Harriette (last name unknown) of New Bern, N.C., and seventeen from her brother, Egbert A. Ross (1842-1863) written while he was attending Col. Tew's Military Academy in Hillsborough, N.C. in 1860 and while he served as a Confederate officer with the 1st and 11th North Carolina regiments in Virginia and eastern North Carolina; a letter to Emma from her mother; and a few other items. The letters from Harriette deal largely with courtship and social life. Those from Egbert discuss life at school, troop movements, need for food, mortality of troops from disease, and other matters.
